In my research and study, I found mental clutter brings on barriers such as: negative thoughts, fixating on things that are beyond our control, obsessing over mistakes of the past, getting weighed down by what others think of us, broken focus or limited beliefs, and the unproductive emotions that result in procrastination.
We all deal with mindset clutter at various points in our lives.
Mental clutter affects your external space (your environment like home, work, and marriage) and as well your internal space (your thoughts, emotions, and feelings).
We know that living in cluttered, unorganized space or a house full of stuff is a result of a cluttered internal state, so that more than likely your mind and emotions are the same.
The one affects the other and vice versa because we are one person made of spirit, soul (mind), and body.
When our mind is cluttered, it affects how we see ourselves and things all around us. It distorts our belief system, what we do and not do, and alters our focus so we see through foggy glasses. We become stressed and the things we truly desire in life seems to elude us.
How To Fight Back
The good news is that you can choose to stop being on that recurring cycle and shift your mind into a place of transformation.
Romans 12:2 tells us…. be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
And 1 Corinthians 2:16 says …. we have the mind of Christ (to be guided by His thoughts and purposes).
You can have a Winning mind like Christ, a Victorious Mind, A Peaceful mind.
Once you make up your mind to shift your thoughts, identify where you are, and desire to make the necessary changes, you will begin to overcome the barriers of mental clutter .
And with God’s help you will learn to avoid those mind traps and pitfalls once you identify them, gain mastery in those areas, and find the solutions that work for you.
Mental clutter opens the door for broken focus along the path you should be on in life. It limits your belief and hinders your faith in what God desires for you, which is His best and for your life to be blessed.
What do you think is one of the greatest tools we can use to break barriers of mental clutter?
It is confidence. The confidence to live by faith!
Tips To Maintaining Victory Over Clutter
Here’s a few tips to help you stay on the path of avoiding mental clutter.
- Spend time in God’s presence for at least 15 minutes or more each day in prayer and meditation on the Word.
- Believe what the word says for yourself, speak it out of our mouth daily. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
- Know that God is working on your behalf as you turn towards Him.
Did you know that the American home has grown 300% in size in the last 50 years and is reported to contain 300,000 items? Even with acquiring more space for our “stuff”, 10% of Americans rent off-site storage!
Wow! We certainly have plenty to clutter up our lives, but also have plenty cluttering up our minds!
One final tip I use to combat those rambling thoughts and mind clutter is to take 15 minutes before bed, dump all my thoughts out of my head and onto paper.
This allows my brain to get the peace and quiet it needs, and helps me sleep better.
Here is what you can do – make a list of everything that’s on your mind. Fill a sheet with as many things you can think of that are on your mind until you run out of things. This can also be in a form of a prayer. Pour your heart out and tell God everything. Then rest easy, be at peace, knowing that He’s working on it.
A 15-minute download in exchange for an 8-hour night’s rest? Now, that’s a wise investment right there.
Wanna free your mind of all the mental clutter? Practice dumping it daily.
